Questions Abound Surrounding Adler's Tea Party Candidate

Congressman John Adler (D) has been called out by the media for dirty campaign tactics. The Democrat Congressman has been called out for trying to get a phony Tea Party candidate on the ballot.

The faux candidate, backed by local Democrats, that include prominent Adler supporters and fundraisers was put up for the express purpose of siphoning votes away from Adler’s challenger, former Philadelphia Eagle Jon Runyan (R).

The Asbury Park Press reports the Tea Party candidate imposter, Peter DeStefano, collected names of dozens of Democrats on a petition, who are all highly unlikely to support a Tea Party candidate. The signatures include those from longtime Adler supporters and fundraisers. The Asbury Park Press criticized Adler for his “weak denial” in having any association with the scandal,

Congress Clashes Over New 1099 Reporting Rule

You heard it from Your Government Affairs Committee First as reported by NJECPAC here. The Increased 1099 filing requirement in H.R.3590 has become a hot topic in Washington and around the country.  

Republicans warned us and finally some Democrats are jumping on board about repealing or cutting back the 1099 reporting requirement that was passed as part of health care reform. Of course nothing is that simple in Washington and partisan wrangling could hinder passage of any repeal.

The Provision which requires businesses to file a 1099 form for every vendor from whom they buy more than $600 in goods and services per year is burdensome and largely unmanageable.

The Internal Revenue Service expects to raise $19 billion over 10 years from the new requirement.

Kean Calls for Real Action

Senator Republican Leader Tom Kean made the following statement in the context of today’s Assembly Budget hearing on the State’s structural deficit:

“The need to fix a decade long structural deficit in New Jersey is old news. What’s new is Governor Christie’s commitment to not raise taxes. The legislature should now build on the structural reforms started since Governor Christie took office.

Here’s a plan of immediate action: further reforms to pension and health benefits, acting on proposals to save our gaming industry, and moving forward with ’tool kit’ reforms that drive down the costs of government at the State and local levels. My hope is that we come to the center of the room and find these solutions in bipartisan hearings.”

Obama Promises Unions Expanded Union Friendly Agenda

President Obama Again Promised Unions that he would  keep on fighting to pass the controversial “card check” bill. 

“We’re going to keep on fighting to pass the Employee Free Choice Act,” Obama told the union......“Getting EFCA through the Senate will be tough. It’s always been tough, it’ll continue to be tough. But we’ll keep on pushing,” he said. 

A promise from a politician to “keep on pushing” isn’t exactly inspiring. However, there’s still a lot of concern about what Democrats might do during a lame duck session.

A lot of Democrats have hinted they are going to pass card check legislation during a lame duck session. It would be a mistake to dismiss the possibility of that happening.

H.R 3590 Health-Care Law Update

N.J. Rep. Pascrell: Changes likely for 'far from perfect' health care reform law

Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. said Thursday that Congress will likely have to change the sweeping health insurance overhaul enacted in March “because we didn’t get it right,” even as he slammed the insurance industry for trying to undermine some provisions. “There’ll be changes to this health care reform, some because we didn’t get it right,” Pascrell, D-Paterson, told a friendly group of small business and health reform advocates at a news conference in a Senate hearing room.

NJECPAC would like to ask The Congressman "So if it isnt perfect why did You Vote For It" but the Congresman did not meet with us when we visited his Washington Office in May even though we begain requesting an Appointment with him 3 months prior to our arrival.

Governor Has Yet To Decide If NJ Will Join Suit Against H.R. 3590

Governor Chris Christie says he has not decided whether to sign on to a 20-state lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of The health-care law H.R.3590 signed in March by Obama.

That makes New Jersey one of seven Republican-led states that have not joined the challenge to the Law. Interest groups on both sides of the debate are lobbying the governor, but some of his advisers say he should not join the suit. Capping property taxes and managing a difficult budget have rightly been his top priorities.

Federal Judge Blocks Parts Of Arizona Immigration Law, Allows Employer Penaties To Stand

Our interest in this issue is more than just undocumented aliens entering this country illegally, it is the penalties that will be born by the employer. 

The Judge let stand the employer penalty portion of the Arizona law which opens the door to prosecution of business owners for hiring illegal immigrants. But, An Employer who may very well have done their due diligence in verifying citizenship but was presented with false documents subjects themselves to criminal penalties if they hire that individual. How will law enforcement know if an employee is  here illegally if they are not allowed to ask them?

Keep in mind, what is in one state today is here in New Jersey tomorrow.

By blocking key provisions of Arizona's Immigration Law SB1070, Judge Susan Bolton has pushed our nation toward a radical expansion of the rights of illegal aliens and has given a green light to anyone that wants to cross our border illegally and do us harm by informing them that their presence here can not be challenged by local officials. 

Bolton's ruling undermines the rights of every American citizen while leaving the states as pawns in a federal amnesty plan. In fact, Bolton's decision is a direct assault on every American and serves only to aid in the consolidation and centralizing of all power into the Obama Administration. It makes no difference who the President is, that is a bad precedent to set.

The National Review wrote: "If [Bolton's] reasoning stands, we will basically cut Congress out of immigration policy and the states out of enforcement. Instead, our immigration system will entirely depend on executive discretion at a time when the executive has little interest in enforcing the law.

The argument by some that it is the Federal Governments job to enforce Federal Law is ludicrous at best. that reasoning says that since bank robbery is a federal crime local law enforcement would could not arrest criminals that rob banks either.

This court case has now become a high-stakes legal battle between Obama and the American people. What happens in Arizona and with this case will dramatically impact every state in the nation. Arizona has appealed and has been granted an expedited appeal hearing in 24 days.
