Around three dozen members of a South Jersey Democrat group met in May at the Camden County Democratic Committee Headquarters in Cherry Hill. Freeholder Jeffrey Nash warned the assembled crowd of volunteers and legislative aides that Obama's economy would make the mid term election difficult for the Democratic majority.

He told the democratic activists they had to get out the vote for Democrats. Then Steve Ayscue a paid consultant took the floor with a bearded, flame-haired man few had seen before. The latter was Geoff Mackler, dispatched from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to lead freshman Rep. John Adler's re-election campaign. Ayscue and Mackler had a plan to ensure Adler's victory.



They just needed volunteers. To give Adler an edge, Ayscue had recruited a then-unidentified man to run as a third-party candidate.

The one thing they did not count on was their scheme being exposed. That exposure placed Democrat Congressman John Adler into an embarrassing position.

Jobs Report Is Bad News For Democrats

The recent Jobs report out of Washington is grim news for the Democrats. There's nothing Democrats, Congress or Obama can do to before the November midterm elections to improve the nation's stagnant economy.

The Labor Department reported that 95,000 more jobs were lost in September and the unemployment rate remained at 9.6 percent. 

Democrats, who now control the White House and Congress, are sticking with the same Mantra "Its all George Bushes Fault" 

Friday's government report is the last major economic news before the November 2nd election, the reality that the report brings forth is it will be years not months before the unemployment rate returns to pre recession levels of  less than 6% which by the way was when George Bush was President. 

This brings intense pressure upon Democrats ahead of the Nov. 2 elections. And it also casts a dark shadow well into the 2012 election season and beyond.

Health Care Waivers Are Approved For Unions, Employers

A number of Companies & Unions have received waivers from the federal government so they don't have to maintain minimal coverage for employees under the health reform law. Some employers, including McDonald's, had threatened to drop health coverage for hourly workers because they said it wasn't fiscally feasible.

The waivers are aimed at providing coverage for workers until 2014, when marketplaces organized by the government will offer tax-subsidized coverage, government officials say.

The  Department of Health And Human Services said it granted waivers so workers wouldn't lose coverage from employers who might choose to drop health insurance altogether.

"The big political issue here is the president promised no one would lose the coverage they've got," says Robert Laszewski, chief executive officer of consulting company Health Policy and Strategy Associates. "Here we are a month before the election, and these companies represent 1 million people who would lose the coverage they've got."

Senator Mike Doherty (R-Warren/Hunterdon) issued the following statement after Governor Chris Christie’s announcement that construction on the Hudson River Rail Tunnel would be terminated:

“Governor Christie made the right decision today by stopping construction of the new Hudson River Rail Tunnel. Our Governor understands we cannot spend money we do not have and New Jersey must start living within its means.

“A financial audit, conducted by the federal government, estimated that cost overruns on the project could top more than $5 billion. New Jersey taxpayers and tollpayers would have been the ones held responsible to pay this multi-billionaire dollar bill. Additionally, the design of the project, as it stood, was inefficient and ineffective towards solving the long-standing capacity problems that are affecting rail travel into and out of Manhattan from New Jersey.

“With this decision, Governor Christie is protecting the people of New Jersey from higher taxes, higher tolls and more debt.”

Hidden in this legislation is much-needed relief to all businesses (small or large) and their employees concerning the business and personal use of employer-provided cell phones, including personal digital assistants (PDAs) with mobile communication features1 and smartphones (collectively, cell phones).2 This provision removes cell phones from the Internal Revenue Code’s definition of “listed property” for taxable years retroactive to December 31, 2009.

Its to bad that what Biden said is largely false. Tax cuts have been proven to create growth, but not unlimited growth, they have to be accompanied by spending cuts, especially to balance a budget deficit.

 

The problem with the Republicans during the Bush Administration was they cut taxes and then increased spending. Even that is not what caused this recession. It was mandating banks to give mortgages to people that could not afford them. When those mortgages started to default banks fell like dominoes. That was a policy born of Democrat Andrew Cuomo, currently running for Governor of NY, when he was HUD Secretary. It was further exasperated by mandates pushed by Democrats Barny Franks and Chris Dodd and affirmed by the Democrat controlled Congress.

 

President Bush warned them all of the problem two years before it happened and they ignored the issue just like they continue to ignore projected shortages in Social Security now.

 

The auto industry is another issue and the responsibility for that falls squarely upon Management first and then unions with both to blame. That coincidentally happened at the same time as the mortgage crisis making the recession worse and giving the Democrats an excuse to spend even more money.

 

Democrats have had control of Congress since 2006 when they were handed the reins. In fact they were in control for two years before this recession even started. 

 

All they have done is what they always do, throw money at the problems, pay off the unions, and hope for the best. If there is not enough money, no problem, they just raise taxes. In this recession they have done one better, they opted to increase the deficit more than every President from George Washington to George W Bush combined. they are now using the deficit they created as an excuse to let the Bush Tax Rates expire. That will result in the largest tax increase in American history. How is that going to work out for you? 

 

Regardless of which party comes out on November 3rd as the Majority, this election will decide the financial state of the country for the next 20 years and beyond.

2,000 New Jersey Construction Workers Heading Back To Work

New Jersey's Joint Budget Committee approved the sale of $1.25 billion in bonds. The funding allows more than 2,000 construction workers to head back to work.

Gov. Chris Christie's halted state-funded public projects until

Democrats in the Legislature approve the bond sale to pay for them, their failure to approve the bond sale led to work stoppages on Monday.

State Transportation Commissioner James Simpson stated it was decided not to halt projects that are partially funded by the federal government.

Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen), the panel's co-chairman, abstained from the vote, Assemblyman Louis D. Greenwald (D-Camden), the other co-chairman, voted against the financial move, leaving to remaining Democrats and the panel‘s two Republicans to approve it.

It was a tense hearing with Sarlo and Greenwald sometimes raising their voices during questioning and Simpson answering the same way.

The Heavy Hand of Kathleen Sebelius

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is upset that critics are accusing her of “thuggery” (the Wall Street Journal) and “soviet tyranny” (Newt Gingrich).  My favorite came from the well-respected political analyst Michael Barone: “gangster government.”

As previously reported here, The reason they are criticizing Sebelius was the secretary’s recent cease and desist order sent to health insurers.  Some insurers have been notifying their policyholders of future premium increases.  In addition to rising medical costs and inflation (which is very low), insurers have had to factor in all the new benefits that President Obama and Sebelius have been touting.

Democrats go Home with Note from Mommy

Before Senate Democrats headed out of Washington, DC to campaign and to face their angry constituents, a meeting was held on Wednesday to "pump up" the team.

As they each left the love fest, they were given a "message card" or talking points to share with the voters. Apparently, the Democrats are in such disarray that they can no longer think for themselves.

What's even worse is that if they plan on talking about what's on their talking points, this election will be a slam dunk... for the other guys. Read More:
