Gov. Chris Christie Slams Washington Politics As Usual

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie scolds both Democrats and Republicans, arguing it's time to start addressing tough fiscal issues directly and stop using the silent treatment as a political strategy. He discussed a variety of issues including Social Security and what he believes needs to be done.

“I look at what’s happening in Washington D.C. right now and I’m worried. I’m worried," Christie said to a crowded room at the American Enterprise Institute, in Washington.

The Governor said leaders aren’t talking about the toughest and most important problems America faces, he called their silence on fiscal issues a political strategy being played by both Republicans and Democrats.

“The president’s not talking about it because he’s waiting for the Republicans to talk about it,” Christie said. “And our new bold Republicans we just sent to the House of Representatives, they’re not talking about it because they’re waiting for him to talk about it. Let me suggest to you that my children’s future and your children’s future is more important than some political strategy. Let me suggest to you that what game is being played down here is irresponsible and it is dangerous. We need to say these things and we need to say them out loud. ”

If You Don't Like It....Riot!

Welcome to another new normal: If you don't like something your government is doing, or if your government is not doing something you think it should be doing - riot. Don't wait for one of those pesky elections. Take over the town square, or the state house and demand that the government do what you want.

We have union thugs in Wisconsin - along with their allies, the Democrats in the State Senate - rioting in the statehouse in Madison over Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to, according to ABC News: "strip government workers of virtually all collective bargaining rights. The bill would also require public workers to pay half the costs of their pensions and at least 12.6 percent of their health care coverage."

New Jersey's Governor Chris Christie is getting a lot of ink, but Gov. Scott Walker should get equal kudos for putting the issues on the line. Democrats in Madison Wisconsen are, much like their colleagues here in Your Nation's Capital: Hiding their heads in the sand; unable and/or unwilling to make tough choices. Democrat members of the Wisconsen State Senate have fled the state - much as Democrats in Texas did in 2003. 

On the broader question of what is a legitimate form of protest, Barack Obama his hand-maiden Hillary Clinton may have opened a Pandora's Box in their zeal to support the rioters in Cairo and their refusal to make a judgment call on the rioting in Bahrain.

Any group which disagrees with the position of a legally elected city council, county commission, state legislature or … dare we say it … Congress of the United States has been given the active permission of Barack Obama to riot in support of its views.

The Heavy Hand of Kathleen Sebelius

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is upset that critics are accusing her of “thuggery” (the Wall Street Journal) and “soviet tyranny” (Newt Gingrich).  My favorite came from the well-respected political analyst Michael Barone: “gangster government.”

As previously reported here, The reason they are criticizing Sebelius was the secretary’s recent cease and desist order sent to health insurers.  Some insurers have been notifying their policyholders of future premium increases.  In addition to rising medical costs and inflation (which is very low), insurers have had to factor in all the new benefits that President Obama and Sebelius have been touting.

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis Encourages Employees To File Pay Complaints

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis recorded a Department of Labor video encouraging Employees “Including Illegal Aliens” to turn in their employers if they do not believe they are being paid enough.

We had no idea that the Secretary of Labor was appointed to be the Equal Pay Police. The sheer volume of calls this self serving video will generate could be staggering.

The video, which encourages employees to file complaints against their employers if they don’t think they are being paid enough, will cost employers millions of dollars in legal fees to defend themselves from a myriad of frivolous cases.

Jury Duty Pay Bill Introduced In NJ Assembly

A Bill Intoduced in the Assembly will force Employers to pay employees for Jury Duty.

A-2818 amends the current law concerning employment protection for jury service. This law specifically prohibits an employer from penalizing an employee who misses work because of jury duty. This bill would clarify that an employer is required to pay an employee his usual compensation for each day that person is present for jury service, less the amount per diem fee for each day of jury service as shown on a statement issued to the juror by the court officer who is making the payment of juror fees.

Bill Introduced To Address Unemployment Claim Abuses

Senate Bill 1968 would amend the current law concerning employment claim procedures to address abuses occurring in the UI system that often result in the delay or denial of benefits to laid off workers.

Among the changes sought are a waiver from repayment of claim overpayment's to faultless claimants. increase the amount of time for both employers and claimants to appeal claim determinations from 7 to 20 days and provide a detailed mechanism for the registration and regulation of authorized agents representing employers in UI claims.

As The US Continues To Mirror Europes Social Benefits, Will We Also Suffer The Same Fate

Can we in the Unites States be headed for the same fate as Greece and the rest of Europe?

Some will say no, "The government has a duty to provide social services" and "Our Legislators would never let that happen here"....Yet history shows that most Politicians govern for votes and rarely consider how the social benefits handed to their constituents for those votes will be paid for over the long term, nor do they take into consideration the natural ups and downs of the economy when their vote binds future taxpayers to pay for programs that they pass into Law.

We may be watching the answer unfold as we watch Europes Social Model colapse under its own weight. An article from The New York Times, "Europeans Fear Crisis Threatens Liberal Benefits", sheds light on the troubles created by Politicians and out of control labor unions that provide benefit after benefit with no regard to the fiscal sustainability of those programs and benefits over the long term.

The short answer is "Elections Matter", and if America does not want to suffer the same fate that Europe now faces, we must vote for politicians that are committeed to fiscal responsibility and the reduction of government spending in every level of Government.
