Top Ten Reasons America Won’t Miss the 111th Congress

The 111th Congress is officially over, and  officially the worst Congress in history. Yet despite its pitiful 13% approval rating some are hailing the 111th Congress as wildly successful.

Of course, most touting the so called “accomplishments” of 111th Congress are the very members of Congress defining their own incompetent actions as accomplishments, regardless of what the American People think.

Starting with Nancy Pelosi, who is not at all ashamed of the legislation she has rammed through Congress, despite the objections of the American People.
Pelosi says she is “very, very proud of the work that was accomplished by this Congress.”

The American people have a different take on the work of Nancy Pelosi and Her Congress. Nothing said "Enough" louder than the earthshaking results of the midterm election, or as Obama himself defined it, the Shellacking they were handed.

If you take a look at some of Congress’ signature “accomplishments,” you might understand where they’re coming from. Here are 10 major pieces of legislation passed by the 111th Congress over the last two years and a look at why Americans were not pleased.
  1. Obamacare: Pushed as the panacea for America’s health care woes, instead American taxpayers will take the hit for a trillion dollars in new federal spending.
  2. The Failed Stimulus: Obama promised that his stimulus would save or create 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010. The result? A 9.8 percent unemployment rate, a national debt of $2.9 trillion
  3. The 9,000-Earmark Omnibus Bill: Never mind the $1.4 trillion budget deficit in 2009. Congress went ahead and passed an omnibus spending bill containing 9,287 pork project earmarks costing $13 billion.
  4. Mountains of Debt: You can’t pin it on one piece of legislation alone, but the 111th Congress has piled heaps upon heaps of new debt, a massive $3.22 trillion. That comes out to $10,429.64 for every man, woman and child. That's more debt than the first 100 Congresses combined.
  5. The Government Union Bailout: As if one massive bailout weren’t enough, Obama and the 111th Congress delivered another $26.1 billion bailout for Government unions and big-spending states that wouldn’t know a balanced budget if it smacked them in the face.
  6. Wall Street Reform? Think Again: While Obama touted the Dodd-Frank bill as reform of Wall Street, the bill preserves the possibility of future government bailouts making a TARP-like bailout system permanent, and does nothing to reform two of the biggest culprits behind the financial crisis: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Many of whose former Executives have been rewarded for their failures with jobs in the Obama White House.
  7. The “Neighborhood Destabilization Act”: Speaker Pelosi would refer to it as the “Helping Families Save Their Homes Act,” but in reality the law does the opposite by Read More, And if you’re a responsible homeowner, you lose big time.
  8. Cash for Clunkers:  Stuck with an old car or truck? The U.S. government would have paid you $3,500 to $4,500 to trade it in for a new, more fuel efficient vehicle. The program didn’t bring new buyers into the market, and the cost to taxpayers? $3 billion. or $24,000 per car. It did however result in the removal of millions of Obama Bumper Stickers from the road.
  9. New START: Obama sold this nuclear arms treaty as a reduction of nuclear weapons. The Treaty will in fact be useless in limiting nuclear proliferation, detrimental to missile defense, and counter to the purpose of defense treaties, defending and protecting America from her enemies.
  10. Cap-and-Trade: The Waxman-Markey climate bill was expected to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions with the unrealistic goal of curbing global warming. The plan would have increased gas prices by 58%, and household electric rates by 90% by 2035.

Americans should expect better results from the 112th Congress, Provided that the newly-elected representatives heed their electoral mandate: less spending, lower taxes and limited government.

But Americans should also be aware that even if Congress stays in line, President Obama will still pursue his big government agenda by way of more regulations from unelected bureaucrats. As the president said when the Democrats lost the House and failed to enact cap-and-trade, “I’m going to be looking for other means to address this problem.” In Fact He Already Has.

Americans will either get more involved in the political process or continue to be its victim.

111th Congress Added More Debt Than First 100 Congresses Combined

$10,429 New Debt Per Person In The U.S. !!!

The federal government has accumulated more new debt, $3.22 trillion ($3,220,103,625,307.29), during the tenure of the 111th Congress than it did during the first 100 Congresses combined, according to official U.S. Treasury Debt Figures.

That comes to $10,429.64 in New Debt for each and every one of the 308,745,538 people counted in the United States by the 2010 Census.

The Total National Debt of $13,858,529,371,601.09 (or $13.859 trillion), as recorded by the U.S. Treasury at the close of business on Dec. 22, now equals $44,886.57 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

In fact, the 111th Congress not only has set the record as the most debt-accumulating Congress in U.S. history, but also has dwarfed the 110th Congress, by an astounding $1.262 trillion in New Debt.

During the 110th Congress the national debt increased $1.957 trillion. When that Congress adjourned, it held the record as the most debt-accumulating Congress in U.S. history.
As it turned out, that record did not last long.

With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi driving the car, (an analogy Obama so loved to use in his failed attempt to demonize Republicans in the midterm election), the federal government has run up $5.177 trillion in new debt. That is about equal to the total debt the federal government accumulated in the first 220 years of the nation's existence.

In her inaugural address as speaker, Pelosi vowed that Congress would engage in no new deficit spending. "After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: Pay as you go, no new deficit spending,” she said in an address from the speaker’s podium. “Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt."

Pelosi Could Doom Democrats in 2012

Soon To Be Minority Leader
 Nancy Pelosi
It was the dumbest thing the Democratic members of the U.S. House could have done. "It" was making Nancy Pelosi the minority leader of the House, and thus the head of what is now the most liberal congressional delegation in the history of the country. It is already jeopardizing the chances of President Obama and his party to recover from their recent drubbing.

She not only contributed to the shellacking the Democrats suffered she handed out the rollers. She is adding insult to injury by her strong opposition to extending the current tax rates for so-called "wealthy Americans". Those rates are a part of George W. Bush's  tax cut package that was passed nearly a decade ago. Her grandstanding is placing what few moderates she has from her own party in Congress in the line of fire.

Moreover, it puts her at odds with the president. That's not to say he wants to extend these cuts for those who earn over $200,000. Rather, it's to say that, he knows to survive another election, he desperately needs to do so.

The problem is that Pelosi is becoming the left-wing spokesperson and an obstructionist to compromise. This will only hurt her own party and the president. It was Pelosi who was unapologetic for the beating the Democrat Party took in the elections. Now even major media outlets and newspapers are reporting that she is becoming a huge thorn in the side of a president who desperately needs to at least appear more moderate in order to have a prayer of re-election in 2012.

Democrats and Taxes: Another Nail in their Coffins

In much the same way Nancy Pelosi pushed through the massively unpopular health care bill despite huge election losses in 2009, she is at it again, this time with a bill to raise taxes on those people who actually create jobs.

The message of the November could not have been clearer: We need to cut spending, reduce the size of government, and return power to the people. On taxes, we certainly should not be raising the rates on anyone when unemployment is still near ten percent. That's a certain job killer, but Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are pushing full steam ahead. Read More

House Battle May Simply Be A Referendum on 'Toxic' Nancy?

Could the unpopular speaker be the key to Republicans taking control of the House? The GOP hopes to bank on a growing list of moderate House Democrats who say they wouldn't support Pelosi for speaker again.

Pelosi is a "toxic asset." Which perhaps explains why a growing list of moderate House Democrats say they wouldn't support Pelosi for speaker again.

"Nancy Pelosi has near universal name ID and high unfavorable ratings in every competitive race across the country," said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. "She is the face associated with these unpopular policies."

But Democrats argue that the GOP is targeting the California Democrat for other reasons.
"Republicans and their special interest allies have attacked Speaker Pelosi with an unprecedented level of money for one reason - she's effective," said Jennifer Crider, Deputy Executive Director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

Unfinished Business Left By Pelosi and Reid

Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the rest of her cohorts have closed up shop and left town, Joining her on the cruise to nowhere, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-N.V.) announced the Senate will adjourn on Friday.

That leaves us with an absentee Congress, Pelosi and Reid promised much would be accomplished this year, but ended with not even completing the major spending and tax legislation needed to help the faltering economy.

The top 10 unfinished business left by Pelosi and Reid include:

1. Extend Tax Rates: The largest tax increase in American History is still scheduled to take effect on January 1st.
2. Create Jobs: President Obama’s $862 stimulus bill was supposed to jumpstart the economy but unemployment in the U.S. remains over 9%
3. Pass A Budget: The congressional Democrats and President Obama have not passed a budget this year to determine government spending.
4. Appropriations Bills: The Congress has not passed any of the 12 annual appropriations bills for fiscal 2011. Instead, they have passed continuing resolutions,
5. Trade: The Chamber of Commerce is urging Congress to renew the GSP and the ATPA before they expire at the end of the year. GSP boosts the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers and lowers the cost of consumer goods for American families.
6. Stop the EPA: The EPA is planning to bypass Congress and dictate rules to curb carbon gas emission. Prominent Democratic Senators co-sponsored a bill to stop the renegade EPA But their leader, Harry Reid, has not scheduled a floor vote on the bill.
7. Repeal ObamaCare's Tax Burden: Small Business will be burdended by an Obamacare mandate to file a 1099 tax form to any vendor paid over $600 in a year.
8. Secure Our Borders: Reid has made immigration reform a top priority of his leadership in the Senate and has accomplished nothing.
9. Pork Spending Reform: Pelosi promised transparency and openness in the budget process including earmarks.” Reid concurred and instead they have done nothing.
10. Ethics Trials for Rangel and Waters: Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) has been charged with 13 ethical violations. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) with three counts of ethical charges. Neither trials have been scheduled.

Pelosi Laughs in the Face of The Public
After Passing Health Care Legislation
Some of the Democratic Party’s most endangered Legislators are distancing themselves from Speaker Nancy Pelosi in an attempt to mask the fact that they are beholden to the unpopular House leader and fully support the national democratic agenda.

Three vulnerable Democrats from conservative-oriented districts are already running TV ads spotlighting their defiance of Pelosi. One freshman incumbent recently joked about the possibility of Pelosi dying. Another member from a tough district suggested he might run for speaker himself.

The roster of Democrats currently playing six degrees of separation from Pelosi spans the country, from the Northeast to the South and across the Midwest to South Dakota.

Pelosi Opposed to Raising Retirement Age

Any reasonable person paying just a little attention and applying common sense knows that there is an issue with Social Securities solvency moving into the future.  We also know that when any politician that publicly acknowledges the problem of SS underfunding and tries to fix it (example: President George Bush) the Democratic Party goes ballistic, and uses the issue for reelection rather than facing the problem and finding solutions to it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Saturday  that she is unequivocally opposed to raising the retirement age for Social Security, and that scaling back Social Security should not be a means of reducing the deficit.

"To change Social Security in order to balance the budget, they aren't the same thing in my view," the Democrat said today at the Netroots Nation conference in Las Vegas. "When you talk about reducing the deficit and Social Security, you're talking about apples and oranges."

Although we do agree with the Speaker that the answer is not raising the retirement age for our children, this is an issue that must be addressed. Speaker Pelosi's comments did nothing to address the problem nor did she offer any solutions, and instead, used the platform to kick off the election year politicizing of Social Security.

Pelosi: Unemployment Checks Fastest Way to Create Jobs

Every now and then politicians say things that are so totally unbelievable they prompt an automatic second take. A recent statement by Nancy Pelosi (House Speaker and leader of the House of Representatives) is just one of them.

Nancy Policy said last week that "Unemployment benefits are creating jobs faster than practically any other program".

I know.....your shaking your head too.
